After launching streaming on PCs and then Macs, Netflix turned it's attention to devices that were already connected to the internet, used for video, and had massive installed customer bases. Yep, game consoles. When the service first launched on the Sony PS3 (and Nintendo Wii), you needed to pop this disc in the DVD player slot in order to be able to instantly watch movies from Netflix. It was the early days of the strategy of "device ubiquity" - be on every device that connected to the internet.
