Remembering those times back in March of 2019 when I hitched a ride on several World Food Programme helicopters while traveling between Goma and Butembo in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I was reporting on the #Ebola outbreak response for National Geographic , and I remember people thinking how brave or crazy it was of me to accept that assignment. But once you've borne witness to the astonishing effort and selflessness of the men and women who provide humanitarian support during the world's most profound crises, that's when you learn what true courage is.
