For #MondayMotivation , I’m remembering where I was five years ago today. My Voice of America editing contract in Nairobi had just ended, and other than the big blowout trip to Bangkok I’d planned, there was nothing on the horizon. No job, no contract, no prospects. I’d spent nearly a decade helping young East African journalists build their expertise, and all of a sudden it seemed like my own experience meant nothing. Five months later, I was convinced I’d never work as a journalist again. I was more depressed than I’d ever been in my whole life. And now I write for National Geographic . Hold on. Trust me.
