I slipped a note into my #gratitudejar this morning, thanking my mother Eloise Jones for modeling strength, courage and sheer will for me. I think it’s why I’ve been able to embrace the extraordinary adventures and opportunities life has tossed at me—while surviving the crushing blows and defeats. So it’s fitting that I’m sitting at Gate A10 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport now, awaiting the first leg of another long journey. I’m also grateful that in this 400th anniversary of the first African’s presence in this country, I’m about to spend most of #BlackHistoryMonth2019 on the African continent. I’m listening to #Homegoing by #YaaGyasi on Audible, Inc. now. It’s giving me chills.
