For #FlashbackFriday , that time back in July of 2007 when I had all the men in Northern #Uganda shook. Well, not all of them, and not for THAT reason. It was because I was a loud-mouthed black “Mzungu” woman who had the nerve to call herself the boss of the Internews Network Gulu radio #journalism training office. I called all the shots, I led meetings, I spoke without getting permission and I didn’t even serve tea! If I’d had even a minute to consider how much trouble that boldness could have gotten me into, I probably would have headed straight to Entebbe Airport and back to Washington, DC! But I’m proud to think that by sticking around, I showed young female journalists a new way of carrying themselves in the world.
