Another AMAZING day of media training activities under my belt as I supported Kathy Bonk in her work with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Mecklenburg County Youth and Family Services Division. I’ve been reporting and writing about #socialpolicy affecting children and families for the past 3 decades, and unfortunately, I’ve produced far too many stories about tragedies and incompetence and mismanagement. Today was such an incredibly uplifting experience because I got to interact with the men and women behind the headlines, whose dedication and commitment saves scores of lives and supports hundreds of families every year—but we rarely see those “good stories.” Kathy and I will be helping YFS develop a set of consistent, authoritative messages that empower the department to change the narrative about child welfare in Mecklenburg County. I’m thrilled to have this chance to strengthen my Comms Strategy Development skills by partnering with one of the best in the field.
