At first, I was flattered when the poll volunteer didn’t believe I was born in 1961. I mean, she SERIOUSLY didn’t believe me. Like, I had to show her my ID. It was funny for a second! Then she told me there was a Jonathan Jones born on my birthday in the computer, but no Rachel. At a poll location I’ve voted at twice before. I’d stopped laughing by that point. Then she conferred with a colleague who asked me to verify the address she was looking at on the ID in her hand, and then they found me in the system. Only my birthday was October 31st in the computer, instead of the correct date of October 3rd. And she couldn’t change it in the system, she said.
