Mubarak Mohamed ’s first job at Edna Adan Ismail 's maternity hospital in Hargeisa was as a teenage front desk receptionist. Something about his cheerful, positive attitude made administrators believe he could fill in for a departing surgery technician. Mubarak kept observing, kept taking training courses. Kept exceeding expectations. He’s now chief anesthetist at Edna Adan. And last week, Mubarak got reacquainted with the son of the first pregnant woman he administered an epidural to. The smile alone captures his whole story.
