I've noted a lot of debates over the past few years about how LinkedIn is becoming too much like Facebook , and how it should be a strictly professional platform that avoids personal, political or religious content. In one sense, I agree. I've been using this site primarily for my professional pursuits as a "global health brand strategist." I regularly share health and development information that drives home the point that we are all in this global maelstrom together. But today, I'm posting my conscience. I left a major mainstream newsroom 11 years ago because I got tired of the "objectivity" trope in journalism, which required reporters to keep their beliefs and opinions tightly confined. I moved to East Africa because I wanted to do work that mattered by empowering young African journalists to do a better job of communicating key issues in their communities. Nine years ago, I was living 7,500 miles away from America, and I saw hundreds of children enduring life in Kenyan refugee camps. Now, I would only need to travel to Texas to see something similar. But the difference is that the kids in Kenya weren't separated from their parents. #GodSaveAmerica and #immigrantchildren Share this post if you agree.
