When I got the email from Kira Zalan inviting me to participate on a panel about foreign reporting at the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) fall camp, I didn't think I'd be able to attend. Kira was contacting me from Lamu, Kenya where she's been based as a freelancer the past year and a half. I was actually leaving Kenya just as she arrived. I was impressed that Kira was making the effort to attend the JAWS Fall camp from so far away, but still didn't think I'd be able to make it. Well, you just don't say "no" to a JAWdess. So here we are, in the Little Rock Airport, about to head to Hot Springs. I'm so psyched about this opportunity to reconnect with one of the most dynamic organizations I've ever belonged to.
