I first met Charlotte City Councilwoman Carlenia Ivory a few weeks ago, at a party thrown for a group of phenomenal women by another phenomenal woman, Artie Collins . Artie recently retired from her job as VP for Community Development at PNC Bank, but she's still all about connecting people who need to meet each other. Being relatively new to #Charlotte, I relished the chance to interact with so many accomplished, dynamic professional women. But something stood out about Carlenia Ivory. She's lived in Charlotte for 47 years, and had a long and distinguished record as an educator and advocate before being appointed to the City Council earlier this year. Her passion for Charlotte and its people, her seemingly tireless effort to create real change were palpable, and attested to by everyone in the room. That impression deepened today, after hearing Ms. Ivory's remarks at "womengive | 17".
