Charlotte philanthropist Hugh McColl says his wife Jane Spratt McColl has always had her own money, which he jokingly referred to as her "bailout fund." He says Mrs. McColl recently wrote a very large check to support Planned Parenthood , and she didn't ask him what he thought about it. McColl says that in 2017, many non-profits still make a huge mistake by assuming that when a large donation comes from a married couple, the final decision was made by the husband. Organizations need to make a concerted effort to acknowledge the source of the donation and directly thank the proper party.
