Mount Sinai researchers just released a study indicating that consumer wearable devices can help flag new cases of COVID-19 prior to molecular diagnosis. They analyzed Mount Sinai Health System workers with an Apple Watch and a custom study app and found significant differences in a heart rate variability (HRV) metric during the seven days before a PCR COVID-19 diagnosis and the seven days after. While it could also indicate that other heart rate trackers are capable of the same feat, the study only had 297 participants so we cannot draw that conclusion yet.
