It was my “first day” yesterday at my new gig. I’ve been around for a while but did the whole HR thing and was given logins for all the new internal technologies. It was a day filled with meetings and new things. In between I sat in an open office near a young professional with couple years of big firm experience, on his day two. We got to briefly chat. We went to dinner with the larger team. When we were saying our goodbyes, he said “You’re going to sit by me tomorrow, right?!” Absolutely, my new friend! I’m sure he doesn’t know how special and comfortable he made me feel. It doesn’t matter if you are 25 or almost 50......change, new expectations and transitions are exciting and unnerving.
