Google gets into the medical research game, and it’s mixed news. Google is launching a new research app for Android phones, which would allow anyone with a device to participate in medical studies. Participants in the study will use the app to report any respiratory symptoms, the precautions they’re taking to prevent disease, and whether they’ve been tested for COVID-19 or the flu. The app will collect demographic data, like age, gender, and race as well It opens up two worlds: one into a better world of clinical trials and studies with more and more relevant patient data; and one into a dystopia where privacy is significantly flawed. I can't yet decide which one this will lead to but I'd opt in to participate in studies as I see more benefits from those, compared to how much of my privacy I’d lose.
