One of the most pivotal moments in my indistractable journey doesn’t start with research papers or behavioral psychology or anything like that. It actually starts with my daughter. One afternoon, we were doing activities from a book written to help daddies and daughters bond. One exercise consisted of asking each other the following question: “If you could have any superpower, what would it be?” The second I asked the question, I felt a buzz in my pocket. A work email distracted me from the activity -- and more importantly, my daughter. To this day, I can’t tell you what she said… While she was telling me her dream superpower, I was busy staring at my phone. By the time I looked up, she had left the room. It was at this moment when I realized that I needed to be better about managing distraction. It was this moment that set me on a five year journey to uncover the roots of distraction and what eventually led me to publishing my second book: Indistractable.
