Distraction is dangerous. Perception mistakes caused by healthcare practitioners while working in hospitals, injure hundreds of thousands of Americans annually. A group of nurses at the University of California, San Francisco wanted to figure out why this was happening. Here’s what they found 👇 The reason people were being given the wrong medication was because nurses were distracted. Seriously! When nurses were dosing out medication for patients, they were interrupted, on average, ten times per dosing round. These constant interruptions were the source of avoidable mistakes. So, how did they address this? They didn’t need to spend millions on a new program or technology. Nurses wore cheap plastic vests that read, “drug round in progress.
