My professional career has coincided with the rise of Facebook - one of the most decidedly habit-forming applications ever to exist. Numbers suggest that Facebook’s users collectively spend over 1 Billion hours on Facebook... per day. After growing and selling multiple startups, I began to notice a trend among the rising group of apps and technologies like Facebook. These apps were not just hoping and waiting for users to return, but were rather actively trying to facilitate behavior change to bring users back for repeat usage. This realization led me down a path of research, teaching at Stanford, and writing Hooked, a step-by-step guide on how to create habit-forming products.
