EyeQue Corporation was kind enough to send their latest kit, the at-home Vision Monitoring Kit after I reviewed their previous device. It includes the VisionCheck, an upgraded version of the Insight and the PDCheck to check your pupillary distance with a selfie. It’s quite like having a basic checkup at the optometrist right at home! We just tried the VisionCheck to get our EyeGlass Numbers which are similar to lens prescriptions. By attaching the device to your phone with an included rubber band, you can measure the refractive error of each eye by performing 9 visual tests on each eye through the companion app. These tests revolve around using the touch controls on the device to align colored bars on-screen. It’s quite user-friendly and there’s a helpful audio guide throughout the process. You won’t get the most accurate result at first (as the app mentions), but with more vision tests and less deviations obtained from the readings, you’ll get a more accurate EyeGlass Number. While it’s clearly not meant to replace your annual eye checkup, it allows one to keep track of how their vision changes over time.
