My best friend is in a medically-induced coma, and today is his sixth day on a ventilator. He has a very small chance of survival. If he does survive, I’m told that he will never be the person he was before he was intubated. I am sharing this with you because my best friend from childhood, my true brother from another mother, was a complete coronavirus denier. He truly believed that the severity of the disease and the scope of the problem was being “hyped” for political reasons. My friend is not a stupid person; quite conversely -- he’s a brilliant doctor.
