There is an excellent new study that focuses on the intersection between medical A.I. and human trust. It describes very simply why both over and under trust represent barriers in adopting A.I.-based medical technologies. If you have over trust, you accept whatever decisions the A.I. would make without questioning that (and that's never a healthy option). If you under trust it, you'll need a lot of unnecessary resources to deal with its decisions as you will want to re-check everything. They conclude that: 1) The efficacy of human-A.I. collaboration is not only about the underlying mathematical process behind the A.I. system but also human factors, including trust. 2) Recent approvals of A.I. algorithms reveal the limitations of existing regulatory standards (at The Medical Futurist Institute, we have a study coming out about this soon). They also mention that the increased patient involvement in a patient-centered healthcare model changes the status quo. And "if A.I. systems are an essential part of this shared decision-making process between patients and clinicians, trust relationships between patients and A.I. systems deserve further in-depth research." https://lnkd.in/e9Hf8QF #AIresearch #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #medicalAI #HealthcareAI
