The FDA just approved an antibody-based test for COVID-19 which raises interesting issues. Those patients who are infected with the virus produce antibodies specific to the virus and such tests can detect them. This would show who has already been sick — whether they had symptoms or not — and therefore, who is probably immune enough to the virus to safely move around. It doesn't mean the test is helpful during the pandemic but it could be useful when we try to go back to living our lives and doing our jobs. I'm just speculating here: What if the pandemic goes on for many months from now even with the worldwide lockdowns and only those people would be allowed to reduce social distancing (to work, do shopping, travel, etc.) who has a positive antibody test and a negative virus test (a PCR test showing there is no coronavirus in their body)? What if biotech companies have to create a sort of biological passport so some people can go back to society?
