This is an insightful article on how people promotions impact company culture and performance. The onus is on a company to make its promotions’ process well-defined and transparent. When employees are clear about how decisions are made on promotions, they know what is expected of them, and where their company is headed. Otherwise, employees are demoralised, and engage in unproductive guesswork, which helps nobody. All companies claim to have their own ‘culture’, but surveys show it is often superficial, and not ingrained amongst the employees. Also, criteria for promotions in one company may not work for another. It’s the guiding philosophy of the leadership team which determines the ‘culture’ of a company. Michael C.
