This weekend, may you MAKE time to switch from fight-or-flight mode to rest-and-recovery. You already have plenty of time, you just have to PRIORITIZE YOUR HEALTH. Did you know that your brain literally washes itself during deep sleep? Our brain is actually at its most active when you sleep (not just controlling body functions) sorting, processing, and sending signals around our body. Cortisol levels lower and our sympathetic nervous system relaxes, which lowers blood pressure. A number of hormones get to work, including growth hormones, which help us repair and, yes, grow. Every individual cell in our body gets a once-over. Our immune system is kept busy at REST, fighting inflammation, infection, and trauma with the release of protein cytokines. SO REST UP!
