Yesterday we drove six hours north to visit Grandma Soumis. She was thrilled by the surprise as my little boy picked her a bouquet of flowers from her yard and we caught up, openly admitting my husband is her favorite grandchild 😂 She mentioned to me where she grew up, 45-minutes "down the road" in Freda, MI. She told us stories of learning to swim in cold Lake Superior and "voluntold" my husband to take me there... From what we saw, the town consisted of about 10 homes, one of which had a "gift shop", a veteran's memorial, and a Copper Mill in ruins. A once bustling town with families and even a movie theater was left as a ghost town in the '60's... We enjoyed the beauty of the shores 93-year-old Connie once danced along and appreciated being together with each other... for if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have my family! 💝 During our six hour drive back, dodging hundreds of deer, skunks and turtles, I thought about what has happened over her lifetime... I reflected on how each choice we make in our lives can change the entire trajectory of our future and how important it is to continue spreading awareness.
