What a mess. I can deliver and dazzle a keynote in front if crowds of 10k, but when I'm being honored or receiving an award, things get really awkward. 🤦‍♀️ Last night was no exception being recognized at BRAVA Magazine 's Women to Watch 2020 Soiree. Following so many intimidatingly strong women... My voice cracked. Exhaustion whacked me in the gut. I just didn't feel worthy. I'm not trying to downplay this phenomenal recognition, but I have some serious survivors guilt mixed with imposter syndrome. I'm just me. Differently-abled me. Trying to bring awareness to the hidden struggles if the disabled community, one conversation and one client at a time. Highlighting how inaccessible our world is and how the disabled community is the most underrepresented community in terms of diversity and inclusion... Swept under the rug and ignored. But we're used to feeling invisible. People get uncomfortable talking about life on two wheels, a sparkly cane, or a 'weird' walk, and avoid eye contact and connection. We've got to do more for our brothers and sisters whom require better healthcare, reasonable accommodation, empathy, and respect. We shouldn't feel like a burden to society. Right?
