I remember sitting in my dorm room Freshman year. My roommate never showed up so I had a double all to myself. One of the students down the hall was in my room. "Do you want to go to this party with us?" "I'm good dude. I'll be writing all night." I responded. "That's kind of cool. By the time you get out of this place you'll have a bunch of work to show." Looking back, I can't tell you why I wrote those stories. Or why I wrote music. Or why I played video games. I just did things because they interested me. I was obsessed with those things and I never concerned myself with things that didn't interest me. Last night I was in my old Google Drive and found some of those stories. And they inspired me a little bit. I left myself a note on the top of one of the books I was writing: "Just write. Edit later. Just get shit down. Understand it will suck. But the ideas are always good. There is no wrong. Write! It’s the only way to create something beautiful. It’s a lot easier to edit what’s already there." During this time, when people are learning new skills and jumping back into things that interest them... Just write (figuratively). Worry about editing later.
