For my TEDx talk I wore a shirt “Genius from the Hood.” Because genius comes in all shapes, colors, ages, and sizes. I was thinking about my life this morning and those that have walked up to me, sent me a message, etc. saying that I’ve impacted them. Then I thought about my blackness. About who I am. About where I come from. And about all of the others out there like me, that weren’t as fortunate as I have been. How many people are not impacted because others are written off because of reasons outside of their control? Genius is still genius, whether she’s black or white. Poor or rich.
