I went to a protest yesterday. I had to sit down because I had mixed feelings. Initially it was a bunch of people (not of color) taking photos of their signs and letting people know where they were. Which made me angry. And when everyone gathered it was a predominantly white crowd. And for the first time in a long time I realized how exhausting it is to be black. I never thought I'd live in a world like that where I would see people that didn't look like me... fighting for me. "Good" isn't the right word... but I felt hopeful. The amount of people that reached out to me to ask questions after my recent posts... the amount of people that shared... the amount of conversations. I'm hopeful. For the first time in a long time. I don't believe there should be a reward and I don't believe people are doing this for a reward. The reward is the change. But from this 26 year old kid from Minneapolis, MN... thank you to everyone that is stepping up. Thank you to everyone that is uncomfortable and figuring it out right now. Thank you for speaking up.
