I had a conversation with one of my employees last week that went something like this 👇🏽 Me: I am the lowest paid employee. Along with all of the other founders. I understand the game. I understand that from a business perspective it would be smart to let everyone go and to skate by until this is all over. I get that. But that would also defeat the purpose of why we did this in the first place. For you. And for people like you. I’m not going to pay myself. Founders aren’t going to pay themselves. Because you all mean everything to us. And we’re confident that together we will figure it out. But I need to know that you’re with us. I can’t promise that we will be a company three months from now. I can’t promise that paychecks will come in on time anymore. But I can promise that we got you and we will figure it out. Them: I am with you for as long as you'll have me. I'm here for a reason. I’ve never done this before. I’ve never lived through a pandemic. I’ve never had a business during a crisis like this. There is no rule-book. People may look at me like I’m an idiot. Hell, I might look back and think I was an idiot. But I know that I will never regret taking care of the people that matter to me.
