In 2017, I got into a huge argument with my co-founders at the time. We ended up separating. Here's where I went wrong ππΎ β I was a **** and said hurtful things that I didn't need to. β I only cared that I believed that I was right. Not about their feelings. Not that they were human beings. Here is what I've learned and how I've adjusted since then: β
I don't manage teams anymore. I'm not good at it. I only step in when I need to. I am more aware of the kind of person I am. I'm blunt. I tell it how it is and I have a lot of passion. β
Everyone on the team (and I mean everyone) should feel safe. Safe to bring ideas to the table. Safe to fail. Safe to try new things. That's where innovation comes from. I used to be a tyrant of a leader. And now, I honestly learn more from watching and working with my team than they probably learn from me. β
It's not always about being right or being wrong. Sometimes it's just about being human. A great read if you're looking to grow a powerhouse team (in any industry) is the Culture Code by Daniel Coyle. That way you don't have to make the mistakes that I did. π
