During my TEDx talk I wore a shirt designed by one of my business partners, Brema. It said “Genius from the hood.” The reason I wore it is this: All of us have an idea of what genius looks like. What smart looks like. What successful looks like. What pretty looks like. What powerful looks like. Etc. I grew up being told that I couldn’t. I wouldn’t. I shouldn’t. Because of the color of my skin. That I needed to be careful with how I approached things because people could take it the wrong way. That I would be making minimum wage my entire life. 👈🏽 literally. Genius comes in all shapes, colors, ages, sizes, etc. Period. The more voices we have out there, the better. The more people we have working together, the better.
