I hear more and more about Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) while learning about artificial intelligence but I haven't been able to comprehend it properly. Now I just heard a good analogue and I thought I would share it with you. There is a painter who wants to create better and better fake Picasso paintings and a policeman who wants to spot these fakes with an increasing efficiency. What happens is that the painter keeps getting better at making fakes, while the policeman keeps getting better at detecting those. The two models keep trying to beat each other and after many iterations, the painter creates images indistinguishable from a real Picasso. This was the goal of the whole GAN.
