Here's the Bloomberg home page on my phone --this as markets and politicians push the Federal Reserve to do even more. The notion of a Fed Put is not new. But, in the past ten years or so, it has evolved from a backstop for the economy to much more of a backstop for financial markets. Proponents note that the Fed operates through asset markets and, therefore, this is inevitable. Opponents point to better direct tools, together with the unintended consequences and collateral damage of over-reliance on central banks.
