One question about Hillary and today's fainting issues. Why was she wearing long sleeves (and it looked like heavy fabric) in 80 plus degree humid weather amidst a crowd. Dark color too. I might have fainted also. Look what happened at US Open: players collapsed and came back. Some tried to continue while cramping. Not sure where event exactly was at Ground Zero but I bet it was flat and low and heat capturing. Some people are just heat sensitive. Really. Some people don't do well in heat. Light colors, short sleeves, carry water. Avoid unnecessary political brouhaha. …see more
If you happen to be in Richmond, #Virginia the second Saturday of the month, which is this Saturday, go to the #Richmond Night Market at Shockoe Bottom. The site is where one of the first slave auctions occurred in the US and is being reinvigorated with energy of city that recognizes its past as it remaps its future of the mid-sized city template. I highly recommend you stop by this summer or fall. It is an intersection of art x food x tech x workshops x innovation x good energy. Plus two dope women who I admire put is on, Adrienne Johnson & Melody Short #travel #art Read full story here: http://ow.ly/wlL850ulszO …see more
Up all night thinking about what I can do other than report what's going on in Italy; especially since my family is in the US. I've been plagued with concerns from freelancers and hourly employees. So, for the next 90 days, I'm extending Ark Republic's union affiliate representation with NewsGuild Communication Workers of America to my Linkedin and Ark Republic family. I don't make a thing, but I think their virtual healthcare service will help many in these 2 months that the US is locked down. What do you have to do? Because I own a media company, send me at 300 to 500 word story about how you're getting through these times. Or someone or something you think deserves shine to kaia@arkrepublic.com . We'll publish and send you the link. The cost is $125 for union dues. None of that I get. I hope this helps. Please share with someone you think can benefit. #coronavirus #smallbusiness #newsmedia #healthcare #pandemic #telecommute …see more
It's Saturday, who's getting a cut? My husband owned a barbershop. During those years, I was his best cleaning lady as I worked on my PhD. This is why this article by Duane Reed warms my heart. For me, the most sage advice for mothers who take their sons to the barbershop is DO NOT flirt with the barber in front of your son. Unless he's your paramour already. I've seen far too many confrontations and break ups in a shop that can traumatize and embarrass your child. http://ow.ly/6pJu50yFBYU …see more
The recent passing of iconic filmmaker John Singleton got Ark Republic talking about hypertension with Belinda Addo, who is an advanced nurse practitioner and practice manager for Perris Community Urgent Care. She also serves as the medical provider for the clinic that is located in the suburban Los Angeles community of Perris, California. As well, Addo is founder of Global Health Initiative a non profit offering free medical care to communities in developing countries. LISTEN TO THE FULL STORY: http://ow.ly/g4Oq50ulnAW …see more
Tap dancer Savion Glover's effort to maintain the arts in Newark, New Jersey is resurfacing with this article. Newark has been receiving much news about "re-development" which ushers in questions and discussions about economics, power-sharing, small businesses, corporations in "the hood," the new migration into the urban area and gentrification. Bravo to Savion. …see more

Creative Cascade at Scale Certainly Covid-19 had been, on balance, very bad. It has, however, accelerated business goals and operations. Even in ways not planned before...like moving AA / NA meetings all virtual. Even though online rehab rose as an emergency stopgap measure, people in the field say it is likely to become a permanent part of the way substance abuse is treated. And it turns out that ‘online’ is a highly effective tool to treat patients with behavioral health issues too. Being able to find a meeting to log into 24/7 has welcome advantages for people who lack transportation, are ill, juggling parenting or work challenges that make an in-person meeting tough on a given day and may help keep them more seamlessly connected to a support network If not for Covid, the “creative exploration” of online meetings would still have happened but much more slowly. I’m glad to finally see healthcare adopt more creative solutions, and I hope we continue to see more ‘creative cascades.’ But moving forward I sincerely hope it doesn’t another pandemic …see more

*Is Printing Out Medical Equipment Cheaper Than Manufacturing?* Revolutionary technologies bring a healthier future. In my book, “My Health Upgraded”, I’m sharing the most exciting questions (and providing answers) about the future of medicine. In the upcoming month, I’ll share with you one question from my book each week and provide a short (but sweet) answer. Question 4: Is Printing Out Medical Equipment Cheaper Than Manufacturing? In short: YES. And not only that, it’s much more customizable. 3D printing works by additive manufacturing, which means that a digital model is created of the object we want to print out, and the machine adds each layer one at a time. That way, a personalized, 3D printed cast could get ready in 2 minutes and would cost around $50. Wealthy companies will turn to 3D printing because of its potential for total customization. Companies in poorer regions will turn to it because it makes prototypes inexpensively.
