The sign above the steel gates of Auschwitz reads "arbeit macht frei" – work sets you free. It was, of course, a chilling lie, an evil hoax. One surprising source of temporary escape inside the gates - music. Under the bleakest conditions imaginable, prisoners performed and wrote music. Watch this amazing story of Italian composer and pianist as he recovers, performs, and in some cases, finishes pieces of work composed in captivity. …see more

I listen to the news. I read the newspapers. I view social media. I cannot believe that I have a book emerging on June 19, 2020 on trauma and its impact on students of all ages and stages. With the resurgence of COVID-19, the already accelerating trend of everything going direct-to-consumer will only increase. This is pretty amazing and something I thought was still years away. Singapore has approved lab-grown chicken from Eat Just, Inc. for sale as an ingredient. The first-ever meat sold that didn't come as a result of killing an actual animal. This is, of course, different than meat substitutes like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat in that Eat Just is selling actual meat. It will be fun to watch this industry grows as other companies are currently taking on growing seafood and beef. #eatjust #beyondmeat #labgrownmeat #chicken #futurefood #impossiblefoods #bioscience …see more
The newest crop of software applications turns this logic on its head. They mimic consumer companies by using technology as a “wedge" to gain widespread adoption, and don’t even try to become systems of record. Instead, they are "systems of engagement” (SoE), meaning apps that employees actually use to get their work done. …see more
So, I was responding to a blog, themommiesreviews.com , about the value of puzzles for children. They can be shared activities; they are fun and they can enable success -- with or without help. I made a puzzle of one of my children's book covers (see image) and I want to encourage others to make puzzles of their favorite children's book covers; it makes the book have new and lasting meaning. And, I have been thinking of selling my books with a puzzle, something that will benefit children who have experienced trauma -- and children more generally. …see more
