I want to encourage folks to buy books as gifts. They are a gift that keeps on giving. Whether children’s books or adult books, reading brings out the imagination and creativity in us all. Books can transport us — fiction, non-fiction, table tops, children’s stories, poetry..... of course I hope you will buy my books but the point is to encourage the purchase of books and giving away books as gifts. Happy Holidays. …see more

i do echo that sentiment. i think the US credit card business is so darn profitable that about every incumbent actor in payments does not want change, does not feel the need for change in the US. #payments #fintech …see more

"Now comes the big question: What are you going to write about? ... Anything at all... as long as you tell the truth... Be brave." Inspiring quotes about writing from the master, assembled by my friend Glenn . A treat!
I think this (and other moves) by Capital One is just brilliant. The creation of the Savor credit card is a perfect example of a company that would seem to have no way to create experiences outside of experiential marketing. But people who use the Savor self-identify as food and experience junkies. So the card is now part of their photos-of-food positing, dining experience. #cx #customerexperience #capitalone #brand #marketing #experientialretail …see more
what to make of c-banks taking on more responsibilities, over and above their core monetary remit, and for some their regulatory remit. is there a danger for “free markets”. c-banks are already doing such a stellar job...

Another excellent read from Dan Runcie . This one on the power of the Rihanna brand and how LVMH knows that they either had to work with her or compete against her. Also eye-opening is the stats on her fan base, the Navy. #brand #luxurybrands #lvmh #rihana #competition #hiphop #businessstrategies …see more
I recently offered some tips to help you be a more efficient remote worker, like creating a workspace. What I forgot to mention is that once you do this, you need to remind yourself to get up and walk around at least once per hour.
On this Veteran’s Day, I have to wonder why we are not doing all that is possible to save Veterans from committing suicide. Programs and initiatives exist; technology exists. But, we don’t act with all deliberate haste. And each day we wait, over 20 Veterans die. There are approaches, including a very recent study on suicide prevention tied into doctors who see Veterans within the year before death. I am finishing Shulkin’s new book and am deeply struck by how much his vision of his tenure differs from reality. As with many leaders who fail, he has not been able to own his mistakes, at least as of page 215 in the book. Isn’t that tragic too? He tells a tale in the name of Veterans but so far it is a book justifying his own behaviors. Sure, politics is a tough game but the story Shulkin tells seems remarkably self serving. I worry about our saying we are helping when we are really real aggrandizing or self enriching or self promoting. Leaders committed to being in service to others focus on these others. On this Veterans Day, it is good to remember what it means to serve — and we can serve in many ways.... and we can honor service and we can help Veterans when they leave service. That isn’t asking too much. It is the minimum we can provide. …see more
argument is: lower rates squeeze bank NIM & long term slowly erodes bank model in long run. recent analysis as per this article: no evidence that is the case in the face of low/negative rates in EU. there is also another argument: Lowe/negative rates distorts risk taking, risk, investments, and zombifies the economy. a quantitative analysis of bank lending yields a very limited picture. …see more

Back in 2005, Walmart eCommerce bowed out of the DVD-by-mail rental space Netflix created. Likewise, JPMorgan Chase & Co. shutting down their Finn app demonstrates again how just because a bigger competitor has more resources, they are not guaranteed to get things right. #jpmorganchase #banking #fintech #walmart #netflix #startups …see more
do not rely only on one theory or one theorist without context. if you are a practitioner, you do not need to rely on a theorist, mere knowledge of his theory is enough to augment your own practical wisdom.
A worthy read and the students are fortunate to have such a person as their teacher; she has empathy and an understanding of struggle and a gift to give and share.
