I really miss the middle ground and reasonableness. How are my social media feeds full of extremes on EVERY topic? If you think Covid vaccines are extremely safe, show clear benefits but don't think people should be forced against their will to be injected,you find yourself in the terrifying middle. If you even TRY to UNDERSTAND why people vote for different things to you, you are accused of being on the other side. If you are concerned about deaths from Lockdowns, you are a Covid denier. If you prefer policy with robust data, or you ask questions, you are "anti science". If you think Climate change is man-made, very real, but we may be better off designing solutions for an altered world, WHILE focussing on stopping it, you're considered anti-green. Pretty much everything we debate in the world is complex, is nuanced, isn't objectively known. This complexity demands asking the very hard questions, it demands empathy to other sides perspectives, it demands getting to the issues beneath the issues and going to the core of our faults as a species. It means asking the biggest questions about morality, ethics. It demands letting go of preexisting ideas and assumptions & being open to changing your mind.
