This is a solid commitment to pushing progress forward HOWEVER there is ZERO mention of professionals with disabilities 😒 Yet again, this ignored community of ambitious warriors is left out of the DEI discussion. "Nasdaq will require boards to have at least one woman and one director who self-identifies as an underrepresented minority or L.G.B.T.Q. (Those categories are not, of course, mutually exclusive.) To give companies time to comply, they will need to publicly disclose their board diversity data within a year of S.E.C. approval, and have at least one woman OR diverse director within two years. Bigger companies will be expected to have one of each type of director within four years. Companies that don’t disclose diversity information face potential delisting, while those that report their data but don’t meet the standards will have to publicly explain why. Over the past six months, Nasdaq found that more than 75% of listed companies did not meet its proposed diversity requirements." I hope NASDAQ reconsiders their communications and commitment to DEI programs by encouraging those with disabilities to apply with accessibility accommodations. https://lnkd.in/eReNkSv #diversity #inclusion #inclusiveleadership …see more
Linkedin TopVoice Cohort Tai T. asked me to provide some advice to millennials on creating a writing process. Myself along with other Linkedin TopVoice awardees added to this insightful article.
I've been thinking and rethinking student debt for over a decade. This idea came to me while sitting in my grandmother's old bedroom. This country needs serious restructuring

A few weeks ago, thousands of California Uber and Lyft drivers participated in a 25-hour strike and protest. Much of the protest called for fair wages and better treatment of workers. While Lyft received a $23 billion valuation, drivers feel the pinch of its pay model. Not so sharing in a sharing economy. #Uber #california #lyft #sharingeconomy …see more
Worthy read. Showcases power of education -- for the good and bad. And, shows the pain of change. Some groups disown non-believers -- Scientologists, Amish, Mormons, Orthodox Jews. Sad that we can't enable folks to break bread together. Ponder all this in today's political world in US. The candidates didn't shake hands at the last debate. One threatens to jail another. One abuses women according to accounts of many credible women. How do we educate for the good and how do we root out education filled with venom and hate and distrust of others? …see more
So, read this story in NYTimes on the number of people attending the inauguration. https://lnkd.in/d-nw_3u . There is much to be said here but consider this: we are confusing perception and reality. What President Trump has is an alternative perception of crowd size; perception can become someone's reality. So, the term that is better is "alternative perception". Now perception can be or become reality. Sometimes, perception is what matters (I feel hurt by you or I am offended). But often, reality needs to be recognized, reified and verified. More to follow in essay. …see more
Scientists may be on the verge of discovering why sleep deprivation kills, and they found the answer in a surprising place.
Nobody should ever sacrifice sleep for PowerPoint or a boss who expects you to sleep five hours or less.
Just posted this. Educators out there, students out there, leaders out there: ponder how we own a bad past, a traumatic past. Pretending it will disappear isn't an answer. Key is tied to bouncing forward not back.
A Miracle on Ice occurred 40 years ago. Sadly, the experience can never be replicated in Olympic sports.
Worthy reading and lots of ideas raised. Comments and thoughts welcomed as we reflect on how to improve the lives of students across the K --20 educational landscape.
As I read this article posted below, in addition to my thoughts about the survivor and his courage, I kept thinking about the paramedic -- a veteran. And the vet's skills saved Mr. Mika. For real. And, yet, we make it so so difficult for vets to gain degrees and license in health fields that use their battle won experience. Wouldn't you want this paramedic in your ER? We must do better enabling the transfer of skills from military service to civilian credentials. And, ask: Would the VA hire this paramedic? I think not because he doesn't have the right paper credential. He had the right credentials for Mr. Mika and he has them for me: experience in moments of extraordinary danger. Surely we can do better and use the talents of those who fought for our liberty abroad. …see more

Here is the promised Part II to Article written by Marc Wine on why we are failing in our disaster relief efforts as relates to healthcare. Showcases opportunity to link block chain with telemedicine. (Part II contains a hyperlink to Part I in case it got missed.) Both are worthy reads. Why don't we do better when we have technology to help others? Seriously, we aren't deploying existing assets. I don't understand why we have technology but don't use it, especially to save lives --- thousands of lives. https://lnkd.in/dvpgFaY …see more
Consider this piece as a statement about the importance of public service. We need quality public servants -- even when things are tough. As the old saying goes, when things are tough, the tough get going.
Consider the potential sale of a music college (small) to a Chinese education company. Should we care who owns our educational institutions? Should we care who are the students? Should we permit all educational institutions to be bought by the highest bidder (moving them from being non-profit I assume to for-profit)? What is the role of the accreditors? What recourse do the students/professors/staff have, if any? See: https://lnkd.in/dFm9hRa #educationpolicy …see more
