a paradox. - financial regulators have a battery of regulations at their disposal. yet most of what they and those they regulate do Is still manual from a compliance pov. they dream and study the potential of machine readable regs & compliance data, of real time regulation, real time compliance w/the appropriate APIs & standardized data. - there is no specialized big tech regulator per sel or regulations similarly as comprehensive as in financial services. yet if there is one industry that can immediately be required to deliver real time compliance, with real time data feeds, it is big tech (Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple...) …see more

Maybe it's me but the LINKEDIN platform will not let me post a post. Is there a hidden message in that? Anyhow, I wrote a piece about change and stagnation and values and Memorial Day. It is appearing in VTDigger on Monday. Happy to post it here but I can't post. So, short messages will have to do until the problem (on their side or mine) is fixed. In the meanwhile, I will spend the holiday visiting w/ friends, visiting Arlington Cemetery and listening to choral groups from the Military. The piece -- when published -- will be linked here. I leave you with the question: on some subjects of import we talk and talk but nothing actually happens to improve things. On other topics, change is swift (like deporting immigrant mothers). What accounts for what change happens? …see more

Truth, trust, and April Fools? Reporter Nicole Lyn Pesce asked my POV on #AprilFoolsDay #Marketing for her excellent MarketWatch roundup: “April Fools’ Day marketing pranks happen as brands try to be agile, current and respond to real-life narratives in real-time. It backfires when the focus is all on the need for short-term attention, ignoring the risk of losing long-term trust. Buyers don’t do business with companies/brands they do not trust (whether buying shoes or enterprise-grade software). They can easily switch to a competitor if that trust is threatened. Today, 42% of buyers don’t know which companies to trust. Brands need to tread carefully on April Fools’ Day; it’s not enough for us to earn attention via stunts. That short-term lift in eyeballs may backfire if it means buyers lose trust in our brand.” Link to article is in the comments (appease the algorithm gods!) …see more
