I love wine. Making money in the wine business is another story. Years ago, my launch strategy for #OlearyFineWines was to avoid the ancient three-tiered distribution retail system and sell direct to my fan base in 41 states. Everybody knows I hate $h&t wine and anything with my name on it has to be spectacular because my family are bigger wine snobs that I am. I blend my offerings for them. If my wife Linda likes my Chardonnay I know I'll sell millions. Same for my daughter Savannah, if she does not like my Cabernet Sauvignon I don't ship it. To pull it off I needed a partner that would let me apply my wine making skills but at the same time could ship millions of individual cases direct to consumers. Pat Roney said he could do it, we shook hands years ago and the rest is history! Here is his story. https://lnkd.in/ednJPPX …see more

It's time for a debate. Based on every trend, paper and study I've seen, I think artificial intelligence will not replace physicians. But I've also become confident that those physicians who use A.I. will replace those who don't because that's what a crucial role A.I. will play in the near future of medicine. I admit that I am one extremely lucky gal to be able to spend a decade with the love of my life to which I'm celebrating our 8-year anniversary today! Reflecting on the rough patches and obstacles, a STRONG marriage and a SUCCESSFUL business are very similar... Both require: 1) COMMUNICATION 2) GOAL/WHY 3) TEAMWORK 4) COMPASSION 5) DEPENDABILITY Just as the sun rises, I will continue to make my husband feel like the most cherished human that ever existed to nurture our family and a future of success. Similar in business, I continue to vow that my team, colleagues, clients, and business partners will never go a day without feeling appreciated for all of their hard work. We can learn so much from the relationships around us... So what are your relationships teaching you? Obstacles are inevitable. Failure happens and lessons are learned. 🌊⛵🌊 Stay the course and build solutions! Cheers to many more years of love and success! #Success #Business #ChantelShares …see more

I want to coin a new term tomorrow: Digital Constipation. It's the idea that the world isn't changing especially fast, but each and every year what is possible get's more amazing, what consumers expect becomes greater, and yet large legacy companies do absolutely nothing because they are scared or unable to change. Digital Constipation is the slow build up of detritus, the old process which won't change, the cultural baggage, the scar tissue of fear, bad memories and poor attitudes. It's this blockage and the tension between what can be done and what is done, which leads to anxiety. It's not the pace of change, it's the ever greater gap, despair and awkwardness for not being contemporary, the jealousy of the smaller companies which get celebrated and the organization rigidity which won't allow adaptation, which creates the pressure on modern large companies. Come be a digital laxative. …see more

When I was graduating college I wish someone would have slapped me in the face and told me this. 👇🏽 Age doesn’t mean anything. I could be worth a million dollars today and die tomorrow. And someone could struggle for 40 years and become a billionaire at age 60. Comparing your life and your journey is a waste of time. It’s like comparing yourself to another runner while you’re out on a jog. You don’t know how long they’ve been running. You don’t know how far they’ve ran. If they had any injuries. If they’re a professional athlete. Just run your own damn race and stay in your own lane. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. #justQ 🖤 …see more

Should you pursue your passion at the risk of starving to death, or do you solve for both. I asked Chris from UNTUCKit and I like his advice. "A lot of people will tell you to go follow your dreams, do what you love, travel the world - and it's just not realistic advice. It's not advice you would give your son or daughter, because you can't out and go take this risk and then all of a sudden you're 35 and you want to start a family, buy a house, or eat. You need that income, so I think you go find a job that allows you to work on your side projects so that you're making income, pursuing your career path in case it doesn't work out, and if you all of a sudden wake up some day and you're 40, you're not waking up some day without any career or job." …see more

Last summer, Corey Lowe  took the initiative to reach out asking if we can grab lunch before entering his first year as a transfer student at University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business  (Go Bears!). During that lunch, he mentioned that networking was still a new territory for him. We later met again during one of my coffee roundtables at UC Berkeley (left). Corey's enthusiasm left an impression on me. A year later, I hired Corey for his first internship. He had the opportunity to present his summer work earlier this week (right). Excited to have him with us for the fall semester as well. I'm glad we got a chance to meet last summer. And for all the students and young professionals out there who might be shy at first with "networking" or just outreaching, I say: go for it. If time permits, people tend to be generous with their time and are very willing to help you. And yes, social marketing is like being a DJ. 😄 …see more

A lot of people ask, what advice would you give your younger self? Like most of us, younger me didn't have a clue. I wasn't rich. And I certainly wasn't brave. Despite trials and tribulations in my adolescence, not a sliver of confidence sparked in my bones triggering social anxiety and a big, awkward personality 🙃 This was before my nervous system collapsed and life wasn't the gift it is today. So to the little girl that dreams of being more and doing more, all you need to do is believe in yourself like you believe in miracles and mermaids. Learn to LOVE learning and study for that LSAT because you will grow so much reading and writing... 💰 They can take away everything you ever earned with student loans and medical debt. 🌞They can take away your joy with bullying and bias. 🏡They can take away your home with late payments and unemployment... But they can NEVER take your wisdom, grit and grace.❤ So keep feeding that beautiful brain of yours with belief and compassion and ANYTHING is possible. #success #mindset …see more

I tell stories for a living. To be a better storyteller I've always looked outside of my immediate industry. Something most people don't know about me is that one of my major goals is to own/invest in an eSports organization. A company that is crushing the storytelling game right now is Blizzard Entertainment , more specifically with their game Overwatch. - Every character that they roll out has an incredible backstory. - Relatable design. - Comics, shorts, etc. - And each character contributes to the overarching story. That's something that we've taken massive inspiration from as we grow our company as well. Everyone within our company has and shares their story. Each of us have our own communities. And so on. Don't be afraid to look outside of your immediate industry and apply what you learn back to your field. #justQ 🖤 …see more

For #ThrowbackThursday, always remember that you are someone else’s dream. My sister Julie Newell died of colon cancer in October of 2007. She was my second mother, the one who taught me love and good graces. Where my career was concerned, she was the wind beneath my wings. Julie would have been very impressed that I got to visit the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa in 2012. She would have marveled at so many of the adventures I had over the past decade. When I think that I am just one year younger than Julie was when she passed, and consider how many goals and adventures I am still determined to achieve,  I know Julie’s counting on me to keep chasing them. Thanks for the reminder, Angela Ford Nelson, M.Div., PMP , that we are never doing it just for ourselves. #inspiration #goals #dreams …see more
