Finding a job used to be about finding a great PLACE to work in. The culture, the environment, colleagues - for most of the people I sourced, those were more important than their salary. Job seekers are looking for something totally different now. The focus is now on the work itself. You feel it with every candidate’s question. It’s less about feeling like a part of a community, and more about the job itself, how interesting and satisfying it can be, and how comfortable you feel doing it from a distance. Physical distance from the office is almost irrelevant now. It opens possibilities for everyone. The world is changing. So is what people seek in their future job. #HR #People This is me, working 6 hours away from the office, I♥️my job. …see more

As colleges are finishing up #graduations, most graduates will starting at the "entry level". I've seen so many of my friends job-hop, thinking that they will rise up the ranks faster.  Churning through companies doesn't mean you are on an upward trajectory. Most of these switches after 12-18 months at one company are to a similar level position. And then they get mad when their work isn't #meaningful .  To my fellow recent grads: How about we focus on the #impact of our work and the value we brought to a company  - over -  what title we have and the number of months we have been there.  We ARE acting entitled. It's time to start earning those titles through action and not words on a paper. #10tips10days  Kira Day   Bobby Umar   Lila Smith   Jake Jordan …see more

There are no #gatekeepers in life, preventing you from doing what you want to do. You are your only gatekeeper. You are your only prison warden. You can choose yourself to do anything. You might not be good at it at first but if you study your failures you will get better. You will keep choosing yourself. Finally you will choose yourself for success. And finally you won’t need to choose yourself anymore. Things will just happen. http://9nl.es/696l …see more

Starting to think dating apps should vanish and we could be a bit more receptive and chatty in real life with strangers and regain the skills we once had to show interest and ( more importantly) to know when there is none. A generation who can only select from visuals, is destined to end up rather messed up. …see more

For my TEDx talk I wore a shirt “Genius from the Hood.” Because genius comes in all shapes, colors, ages, and sizes. I was thinking about my life this morning and those that have walked up to me, sent me a message, etc. saying that I’ve impacted them. Then I thought about my blackness. About who I am. About where I come from. And about all of the others out there like me, that weren’t as fortunate as I have been. How many people are not impacted because others are written off because of reasons outside of their control? Genius is still genius, whether she’s black or white. Poor or rich. Think about it. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 #diversity #blacklivesmatter …see more

People chase followers and a following for the wrong reason. The goal is to have a lot of people you listen to and learn from. Not lots of people you get to speak to. People seek validation when they should be seeking debate.

In addressing the #WhartonGrad Class of 2020 during these unprecedented times, I offered three suggestions for leadership during times of uncertainty, and two pieces of advice: - Be humble, be open and be committed as leaders - Be optimistic, but realistic in your optimism - Focus on your personal passions, but do so with empathy and compassion that considers others at the same time. #TakeTheNextStep …see more

I started my ashtanga #yoga practice about 3 years ago. I was inspired by this video. When we see #excellence in any field we can be inspired by the persistence, #passion , #purpose behind it. And we can imbibe this #inspiration into our life’s to goals that are relevant to us. I never imagined when I saw this video that someday I will have a chance to be in a class with Laruga Glaser and learn from her. I joined in the class this weekend in Mumbai organised by True Bay India . At so many levels it was a humbling yet joyous practice. - No matter what we achieve there is more to #learn - #Mentors come along and share the knowledge when you are ready to receive - Taking time out to invest in expanding our life experiences enrich us to enhance #outcomes in all aspects of our life. #WeekendMusings …see more

As an entrepreneur, you are passionate about your idea. How you communicate this idea to the world is as or more important as the idea itself. You will need to constantly sell ideas to your co-founder, customers, employees, investors, family and the world. Steve Jobs was not only a successful entrepreneur and innovator but also a great communicator who put forth his ideas to the world effectively. He brought about a passion for his products in ways that few others could. Thankfully, soft skills like these can be learned. This TED Talk shares a simple structure for communicating and delivering great talks. …see more

So a Gen X'er meets up with a Millennial for a coffee chat in Shanghai thanks to LinkedIn... Had the pleasure of finally meeting John Patrick Mullin  at my office today in Shanghai, after connecting through LinkedIn this year. John gave me a quick primer on why blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and bitcoin are going to change everything. I still don't understand what any of those things are, but at least I've found someone who can help make sense of it to me.  And I could care less that he's just a few years--ahem--younger than me. He's got a lot to teach me about that. I plan to binge read John's articles on these topics.  Make sure you follow this guy. He's got a lot of great ideas and pretty big plans. #fintech #blockchain #bitcoin #China #MillennialsRock …see more

Do you accept every LinkedIn connection request? You should. When you publish any type of content, you WANT more people to see it. You WANT to increase your exposure. Yeah, you might get spammed after accepting requests. it happens. That shouldn’t stop you. It also shouldn’t stop you from searching for like-minded individuals to actively connect to. It will benefit you in the long run. LinkedIn isn’t Facebook. Your connections don’t have to be your personal friends. They can just share some of your interests, work at the same company, or field. When you reach over 10K friends, you can start worrying about the type of people you accept as connections. Until then, unless the profile looks like a bot, you should accept all connection requests. #hr #hiring #career #linkedin …see more

Happy New Year! Let 2019 be an amazing year to bring you all the personal and professional success and growth you wish for. Do you have a new year resolution? I have a few resolutions & goals. #1 in my list is to get back to daily meditation, the habit I built a few years ago, but lost it more recently due to being extremely busy. Wearing different hats every day as an executive, mom, wife, university lecturer, startup advisor & investor, public speaker, daughter, sister, and friend left me absolutely no time for myself. As someone who researched mental health and the benefits of meditation closely, I know that committing to do 5-10 minutes of meditation every day will bring me the focus, calm, and clearance of mind that I need and make me more effective in everything I do. So my new year resolution is to get back to daily meditation. I want to invite you all to join me in this journey and share your experiences with me throughout the year. These are some tips on how to get started: 1) Allocate the same time every day to meditate. Ideally you meditate after an existing routine (e.g. right after you wake up). That’s the best way to build a habit. 2) Set a reminder. 3) Use one of the meditation apps - Calm or Headspace. #health #wellness #meditation #newyearresolution …see more
