Never forget how far you've come, how strong you are, and how much you've accomplished. Never forget whose shoulders you stand on, whose friendship you've savored, whose encouragement fueled you. Never forget that you are always, always tougher than you think you are, and that even closed doors can't blot out the sunshine of hope. And always remember that you are a leader to some, a mentor to others (and even a villain when necessary!), but always, always, you must be authentically you. 20 years ago, I was President of the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) , and that organization taught me how to be the leading lady of my own career. That energy carried me across the seas to East Africa,Ā kept the wind in my sails, and then blew me back home. As I stood with these other Past Presidents of JAWS in Hot Springs last week, I knew I'd come full circle. And I that I must keep paying it forward.
