Division of labor is interesting. The more expensive a restaurant is, the more specialists they have. The people who fill your glass with water, the Sommelier, the maître d′ , the waiters, global head of carrots, etc. You ask the water person for the bill and you get a blank stare. You try to pass your bill from the bar to the restaurant and it's not possible. It's always fascinating how many businesses divide tasks not around what's best for the customer, but what's the easiest way for them to operate. We love tightly defined roles based on skills, not working around the customer experiences. We default to specialists not generalists. The best restaurants still solve the problem with better communication, not better structure or more liberated responsibilities. It's nonsensical to me. …see more

People won’t follow you if you don’t know where you’re going. So, what’s your bigger vision? I had the chance to interview Brittany Krystle Hoffman in the Strange on Purpose podcast and it was incredible. She talked about how influence is trust. And a part of building that trust is having self-awareness, knowing who you are, and what makes you unique. Don’t be afraid to ask yourself questions. Don’t be afraid to take the time to get to know yourself. Because at the end of the day if you don’t know why people should follow you, it’s going to be hard for other people to decide why they should. What’s your vision/mission? #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more

When am I most impressed? When I witness purity of purpose and talent. There are a lot of talented folks who work tirelessly… but yearn to do something that aligns with their purpose. They spin their wheels to be productive and get ahead (and often do, by conventional standards) but never feel fulfilled. Some know their purpose... but are too scared to take action, pushing their true talent to the background. They tell themselves that what they’re doing is good enough, but also are left feeling unfulfilled. But every once in a while, I catch a glimpse of someone brave enough to align their purpose with their talent. I say brave because make no mistake, it can be terrifying to cast aside those things you’ve always done, the so-called “talents” that you’ve hidden behind while you were waiting for the right time to come forward with your true calling. You’re vulnerable. Exposed. You might be challenged or ridiculed. And still, you push through. But it can also be exhilarating. A rush to know, deep in your bones, that you’re on the right path. And so worth it. I’m inspired by your unstoppable energy. Motivated to keep going. Awestruck at your positive transformation. Because when you combine purity of #purpose and #talent , amazing things can— and do — happen. #alignment …see more

Raise your hand if you’re feeling adverse #career effects of #workingfromhome and #COVID . 🙋‍♀️ We’re negative, unproductive, and feel exhausted. Add to that a continued sense of uncertainty, loneliness from social isolation, dissolving boundaries that blur our home and work lives, and the endless rumination over what’s next, and it’s a recipe for disaster. The good news is that there’s hope. Developing a practice to deal with challenges and enhance your emotional #wellbeing will help you avoid #burnout and combat future threats. Here’s how: Cultivate connection❤️ When we have someone we trust who holds space for us to be heard without judgment, we feel more supported and connected. Pause the self-judgment⏸ Make a conscious effort to observe your thoughts, and when you find yourself being your own worst critic, journal your feelings, talk to someone you trust, or do something else to press the reset button. Be open about your struggles🗣 This is especially true of leaders who are afraid to appear weak or experience vulnerability or mistakenly equate leadership as mistake-proof. Explore your concept of balance⚖️ If you spend your day in a hectic, noisy environment, seek out some quiet time alone. Consider your needs as you add in complementary activities to your daily mix. …see more

Discussions on the influence on stocks of retail investors have tended to focus on the demand side, including larger flows and outlayer moves (such as the moves in Hertz a few weeks ago and Tesla currently). Supply side changes are also at work, including the lowering of barriers to entry (see below for an example). #stocks #markets #investors #investing …see more

How often do you find yourself experiencing life through your phone instead of actually experiencing the world around you? I get it. Life is busy, and staying connected is often a professional necessity and a personal pleasure. But what happens when we cross the line and more of our time and energy is spent watching life instead of living it? I think we pay a high price – a spirit-draining, soul-crushing price. Our constant distraction robs us of what it means to be a human being – meaningful, life-giving and life affirming connection with others. So, this year my focus is on being present, LIVING my life instead of watching it. And, I’d love it if you would join me. If you are interested in joining me on this journey to stay present, focused AND productive and effective in 2019 CLICK HERE: https://lnkd.in/gWdrVwS to enroll in the Live Fully Work Simply Membership program at my special 2019 discounted price. Little tip. It is safe to assume that people really like helping other people. Generally speaking, those people with the most influence / money / authority to help, have some of the greatest demands on their time & attention. So when asking for help, try to do three things. 1) Make it as easy as possible to help them. Don't reduce the scope of help needed, but reduce the mental effort required form the other person. 2) Be specific and honest about the help you need. These are the big two. The 3rd is a bonus. 3) Showing you've been thoughtful and empathetic is wonderful. It's not an ego play, but it shows the person that you are thoughtful, but also shows you've put effort it, that you've not just send the same thing to 100 random people. …see more

Attention Corporations: Can you put RFP's in the past already?! Nobody likes them. The process wastes SO MUCH valuable time! We all know it is usually a negotiation tactic for a lower price or a price war between vendors... Can you believe some companies still request GIANT 3" binders of printed copies, requesting the 20 copies (stamped COPY on each of the 1500 pages) shipped overnight via first-class mail? What is this, the 60's!? And just when you THINK you have a chance at winning the RFP bid in the finalist phase, the prospect declares that they are staying with their incumbent 🙄 Here's an alternative option... 👉Spend ONE hour with each prospective supplier on a call to get to know their company culture, services, and differentiators for alignment. 👉Send them a brief follow-up document with a short Q&A to understand if they will be a good fit for your product/software/service needs with pricing included! 👉For more technical responses, request a one-pager of ALL security and certification elements. Some companies will always be stuck in their old ways. The old way of doing things isn't always the best way! 🙌*Can I get a hallelujah!?*🙌 #RFP #Sales #Management …see more

Acceptance. It’s what so many of us yearn for. From the playground to the workplace, we spend our whole lives trying to fit in, whether consciously or unconsciously. And it’s no wonder: we’re wired to belong. We want others to like us. Rather than risk rejection for being different, it’s safer to blend in. But in a professional sense, that can be a big mistake. When you try to be all things to all people, you end up being a non-compelling, watered-down version to everyone. Your offering becomes a commodity. But what if you stopped trying to fit in, and instead, focused on standing out? It starts with telling your story. But to do so, you’ll need to identify and articulate your common thread, that theme that weaves together your personal and professional experiences to tell your unique story. Do you know yours? It’s worth considering because once you have your story, it changes everything, including how others perceive, pay, and promote you. When you embrace and highlight what makes you different and how your uniqueness adds value and helps people, you shine. And that light will attract others to you for all the right reasons. #personalbranding #career #careerstory …see more
