What an inspiring day at the IAWF Conference! Examples of especial moments of today were 1) seeing my role model, Mahvash Yazdi receiving the Lifetime Career Achievement Award; 2) hearing Judge Sabet saying that "success of your life is not about how much money you make, how many ladders you climbe, or how many glass ceilings you break, but rather the number of lives you touch"; 3) sitting by our brilliant and humble, Parisa Khosravi, learning from her invaluable wisdom; 4) sharing the panel with amazing friends telling our stories. So Proud of the empowering & energizing community Mariam Khosravani has built! Roya Soleimani Leili Baghaei Rad Sepideh Nasiri …see more

Quality matters just as much as quantity – and with life expectancies reaching well above 80 in many countries, we should concentrate more and more on the former. So, how could technologies help aging society stay healthy as long as possible? How could innovation help make life worth living over 90? …see more

This good news from Gilead is best seen, IMO, in the context of the three-point health response: Treat the coronavirus illness better, Improve the identification of the virus and the ability to contain it, and Progress quickly towards full immunity. The third point would accelerate the journey to a full/simultaneous/durable economic restart but needs more time. In the interim, the first two influence the timing and risks of a partial restart, including minimizing a "W." #coronavirus #health #gilead #covid #covid19 …see more

Last month I gave a talk at UC Berkeley on the transformation of storytelling (full description below). I am speaking with Professor Polly Wiessne from the University of Utah soon to learn more about her research on traditional storytelling (link to her research in the comments section). Any questions you'd like to ask? A recap of my talk: Yesterday’s ancient campfires are today’s digital news feeds. From a 10-second snap to a 140-character tweet, social media has transformed the way we tell stories. While ancient campfires provided the center stage for a sole storyteller, today’s digital news feeds are noisier with many players, from friends to brands, each competing to share their own story. This democratization of storytelling has empowered the rise of unheard and creative narratives, but is also unforgiving to marketers who still treat social media as digital billboards. …see more

If you've got a passion, or knowledge about, or a company that's linked to modern Prefab/Modular/Tiny homes , I'd love to hear from you. Looking for some options. - A but like Container homes - but likely not as constrained. - VERY like Kasita, but they pivoted to hotels. - Like VIPP but not crazy expensive - Treehomes / Floating Homes anything wild. Would particularly be interested in working with imaginative designers with time and dreams & looking for support, or a college/university with students who want a paid project. …see more

I didn't expect the internet over 20 years to create a crisis in trust, news, and a lack of faith in expertise. In fact, you'd imagine it would have created an unheralded era of wisdom, knowledge, empathy, connection, transparency and meaning- not quite sure how we let algorithms , destructive lazy predatory business models and human biochemistry ruin it. …see more

If I could offer one tip for work for the modern age. Please know when to do something quickly and when to do something well. A weird thing happens when you get a tiny bit senior, you see lots of people try to impress and with great intentions doing non urgent things badly fast. Default to brilliant unless requested fast. And maybe then challenge.

Do you know the word #empathy was only added to the dictionary about a century ago? It doesn't mean people didn't have empathy before, but we have recognized it as a distinct attribute, a desirable attribute, and even a science to define its value and impact fairly recently. #Power of Empathy is credited for #healing , to #leadership , to #happiness . It’s difficult to tear ourselves away from what we believe to be true and understand another person’s point of view but doing so will show our ability to #respect the people around us. With empathy comes #clarity , and it allows us to be brave enough to be vulnerable. We strengthen our conscience in this process and no longer fear to admit to a fault or a mistake. And with a willingness to see others' points of view, we are able to find better solutions and answers to conflicts. In fact, some go so far as to say empathy will be the ultimate game-changer to create a better planet. "Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world." - Desmond Tutu …see more

I used to compare my social media following to people in my circle every day. Literally every day. Which was [royally] stupid looking back. 👇🏽 ✅ 5 years ago I had less than 900 followers. I was nobody. The people that are big today may not be big tomorrow. And the people that are small today, could be huge tomorrow. One viral post can change everything for the better or for the worse. ✅ Those are actual people following you (unless you bought your followers 😅). So many people get worked up about not getting the numbers they want, instead of pouring time + love into the people that already support them. Retention is equally (if not more) important as acquisition. ✅ You're on your own clock. Comparing where you're at in your career is like comparing yourself to another runner out on a jog. You don't know how long they have been running, their background, etc. Run your own race. ✅ The amount of followers you have is nowhere near an accurate indicator of how great a person you are. Take a deep breath. Run your own race. And don't buy followers 😅. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more
