Humbling and grateful to attend my third Forbes Under 30 summit, and bumping into Jenny Rooney at the event last minute! I first met Jenny three years ago. Our first convo was supposed to be a strictly explorary call about me writing and adding value for the Forbes CMO Network through my thought leadership. However, by the end of our chat, Jenny made it a point to call out that my path to social storytelling at Apple as an immigrant and first generation graduate was pretty unconventional and admirable, and that I should be very proud of it. By that time, I had worked multiple work-study jobs, including running social for Samsung, UC Berkeley, and Haas School of Business while teaching two digital marketing courses. As a caring and thoughtful mentor, Jenny took the time to learn about my story and gave me an opportunity when many people might haven’t. Months later after our conversations, Jenny nominated me for the Marketing & Advertising list and in early 2016, I became the youngest Forbes 30 Under 30 that year. Thanks Jenny for all that you do and the support over the years! Sometimes the most remarkable and watershed moments happen because of serendipity and when you want to add value first. Presenting at a virtual event should be considered much more like being a TV Presenter. The requirements for energy, humor, pacing, etc, are far more important than content. Holding attention is REALLY hard. And it's the greatest honor there is.
Make your websites and company credentials feel 2020 by just using the word experience everywhere. It’s the experience economy. You are not a CRM platform. You are a CXM company. You don’t do ads, you do customer experiences. You are not a retailer, you make experiences. You are not in events, you are in branded experiences. It’s not a website designer , it’s an experience designer. How was this reading of these words experience ? The is the experience of being in the age of experience and don’t let any need for precision get in the way of some great marketing fluff. …see more
Out of interest. And it's a question. In the 17 years since I entered a creative agency in advertising, what's actually changed in creative agencies? I can't think of anything.

I told our business coach to fire us if we didn't meet our sales goal by the end of January. 2019 was our best year but also a rough year. I was sick of feeling like our team was on a hamster wheel. If I’m being honest a part of me didn’t think we would hit it. But we did. And then a crazy thing happened. We past it. And we're still going. I'm focused AF (as the kids would say 😉) this year & I want to see more people in my networking getting after it as well. In this newsletter I cover: ✅ Sales changes ✅ Epic conversations ✅ How I'm holding myself accountable for my podcast goals ✅ My focus on YouTube #justQ 🖖🏾🖤 #entrepreneurship #business #startups …see more

Mentorship has always been important to me. Beyond just receiving passively, I have always encouraged young leaders to pay it forward by mentoring others. You're never too young to help someone out. Thanks for the shout out, Steve Blakeman . Looking forward to what you'll do next, Víctor Hugo Herrera Colorado ! "We talked for over two hours about how he believes writing can help him achieve his aspirations. He spoke excitedly about how inspired he was by Tai Tran, who is a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, LinkedIn Top Voice and TEDx speaker. He wants to emulate what Tai has achieved and, as a role model, he couldn't have chosen better. Given that Tai was such an inspiration to Victor, I asked him about his own personal reflections on how mentors have influenced his own journey: "It's incredibly surreal to hear that my story is inspiring other young leaders like Victor. I started this journey with a passion for marketing and helping others. I credit some of this success to my mentors from the likes of Forbes, LinkedIn & Apple." Tai went on to offer some sage counsel to other fledgling executives: "Ask for advice, not favors. Likewise, learn to give as much as you take by mentoring others and continuing the cycle of paying it forward."" https://lnkd.in/gNYGJrx …see more
I cannot think of a more powerful example of the beauty, strength and resilience of #Kenya 🇰🇪 than Joy Wanja Muraya , one of the first journalists I mentored when I landed in #Nairobi 10 years ago. That’s why it’s an honor and a privilege to start my day by Liking “Wanja’s Health Diary” on Facebook and Instagram , and asking you to take time to do the same. We must always take opportunities to lift up brilliant young people who don’t let the chaos of this world disrupt their vision. Joy wants better health for ALL Kenyans.
