I spent today confronting the untapped power of my Macbook Pro, and finally produced a slideshow of images from the June 30th graduation ceremony for 60 midwives at the Edna Adan Ismail University Hospital in Hargeisa, #Somaliland. I even managed to post it on YouTube . I'm so proud of those enthusiastic, committed young women I got to meet half way around the world, because I know they're making their communities better. If there is one thing that is really making me angry, it’s this idea that somehow every single death from Covid is totally shattering tragedy, worth covering in painful precise detail, while the deaths of 100 times more people each day are somehow less special, less painful, less significant. I've a sneaky feeling a huge number of new businesses are based on old predictions about lifetime customer value, old churn rates, and not the reality is that loyalty is dead, cancelling is easy, switching is expected and people brought in with a huge money off offer, may be the worst customers you could ever have. People today have an abundance of stuff, decision fatigue, and more disposable income than ever. It's weird how few amazing, strong and unique brands don't sell direct to consumers and force you to buy via a retailer. I'm not talking about CPG/FMCG brands that can't make the finances work, but fashion/luxury/furniture/design brands that could easily forge stronger relationships direct.
