Japan's 2nd-quarter GDP is out. Like many other countries having already reported their data, it was the worse quarterly contraction on record: 7.8% quarter-on-quarter, and an annualized 27.8% fall. Many of you have heard me talk about the NASDAQ's impressive out-performance, something I emphasized in my own investments because of the underlying drivers ... but, regrettably, exited the trade too early due to valuation concerns. These charts come from the Bloomberg Markets article entitled: "Blistering NASDAQ momentum is approaching dot-com escape velocity." #markets #stocks #nasdaq #investing #investors …see more

In my lifetime wars have changed. We had the Cold War, the war on Drugs , the war on Terror and can’t help but think the next war will be the war on “the truth” or weaponized information. Algorithms have forced divides in society, extremists, conspiracy theorists, and massive distrust in media, experts, Governments and those who think differently . The way media makes money is based entirely on clicks and outrage, we’ve weaponized and monetized attention. Society now seems less able and willing than ever before to have an open mind, to seek challenging views, to empathize, and both sides are smug, entrenched and more enthused to find simplicity and discount the other side as stupid or elitist. Meanwhile what is true isn’t just clear fake news but a mess of propaganda, satire, badly framed statistic, the viral nature of anecdotes. Covid19 is a clear example of a fog of information war. Nothing seems known, nothing seems clear, everything seems strange. Even info from authorities is contradictory . Meanwhile we’ve Trillions of money spent on fighting the wars of the past and physical weaponry and it seems nothing is spend on the software and business models that are going to tear the fabric of society apart and kill many people in impossible to attribute ways …see more

Does your brand image say you're TOO CASUAL for your career goals? I love sitting down with Miriam Bulcher , luxury portrait and personal brand photographer because we discuss new brand imagery and influencers that are KILLING IT or completely missing the mark. Here's the thing: If you miss the mark with your brand, you're missing out on opportunities galore! You're not Gary Vaynerchuk , so having high expectations and consistency across the board are imperative for you to reach that status. He's also got a very laid back, casual vibe, so what works for him may not work for you. This is just one example 😊 Think about where you want to go with your business and your career... 💙 Do you have a clear and consistent brand that will get you to those career goals? 💙 How about your imagery? 💙 Does it ELEVATE your brand? Have you invested in yourself, your brand, and your business? I'd love to hear what you are doing to market yourself for lead generation! #PersonalBranding #PersonalBrandConsulting #BrandPhotography #Photography #GraphicDesign #GraphicElements #Branding #DigitalMarketing #DigitalReputation #SocialMedia …see more

The K-Pop group K/DA launched their first song in 2018. It took the world by storm. Thousands of Youtubers did covers, reviews, and even remixes. Redditors To date, the group has gotten seven hundred million views on their content. And that’s not including the views of all the other creators talking about them. What's really crazy though... It’s a fictitious group made by Riot Games. The band members are characters from their game League of Legends— Akali, Kai’sa, Evelynn, Ahri, and their most recent addition Seraphine. Every time someone listens to the music it's a free promo for the game. Sure, it cost a fortune to make happen. But they paid $0 to promote the content once it was live. And it’s made riot millions. The best marketing doesn’t tell people what you do. It does stuff worth talking about. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more

I still remember listening to Avicii growing up. Such a talented artist. You’ll be missed. One of my favorite Avicii’s lyrics that will live on: “Feeling my way through the darkness / Guided by a beating heart / I can't tell where the journey will end / But I know where to start / They tell me I'm too young to understand / They say I'm caught up in a dream / Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes / Well that's fine by me” …see more

It’s interesting all direct to consumer brands are in the same spaces, mainly things young urban slightly trendy people buy. So we can now select from 300 direct to consumer socks or 200 reimagined jeans Wonder why nobody makes direct to consumer kitchen appliances, how about a microwave without 28 unnecessary buttons. What about a direct to consumer TV brand with good, better, best ranging and delightful onscreen menus and a lovely feeling remote control. What about a washing machine with programs you actually understand and just far easier to use. With really good sales support ? What about vacuum called “iSuck” , or someone making the teasmaid cool . The more stuff we buy online the more opportunities there are to disrupt categories we assume are hard. These may seem like dumb ideas, they probably are, but I’m sure we can do better than the current tranche of complex decision architecture, ugly designs and inefficient route to market …see more

It's weird companies that need to change turn to management consultancies that haven't changed since the 70's to apply 1980's thinking. My upcoming book will be a pretty provocative, interesting and in parts naive way for people to finally think differently

For #WednesdayWisdom , ALWAYS be ready to play the long game. Why settle for a Governor’s job, when you can be a Superhero who saves American democracy? When #StaceyAbrams ‘lost’ the #Georgia Governor’s race in 2018, more than a few people counted her out of the high-stakes political arena. Abrams was too busy strategizing to care. History will revere her name, and now the nation has a fighting chance to recover. Moral of this story? When people count you out, start the countdown to your next victory. * * * #GeorgiaOnMyMind #AmericanPolitics #GeorgiaSenateRunoff #politics #Election2021 #AmericanDemocracy #womenleaders #womensleadership #womeninpolitics …see more
