The real reason we use our phones, tablets, and laptops in meetings is to escape our reality... because reality is often times uncomfortable. Meetings can be tense, socially uncomfortable, and very often, exceedingly boring. Meetings are hothouses of discomfort that any rational person would want to escape given the opportunity. Our technology gives us the perfect way to be there, but not. Check out my article on this topic, “Time for Digital Hat Racks” at the link in the comments below! #Indistractable #BePresent #Meetings #Tech #HumanBehavior …see more

❌Manager ≠ Leader❌ A manager controls elements to achieve a specific goal. A leader influences, motivates, and enables others to contribute toward organizational success. What makes an excellent manager won’t help those who aspire to lead in making that transition; these will: 1️⃣ Relinquish your need for control There’s a reason they call it “micromanaging” and not “microleading.” Leaders are secure enough in themselves that they empower others. They hire the smartest and most talented people and then get out of their way. 2️⃣ Put people before processes (and yourself) Leaders understand that at its core, business is powered by people, so they shift their focus to put others first and help them feel seen and heard. They also invite and align them around a shared vision, inspiring and motivating them to be their best. 3️⃣ Model leadership behavior Leaders don’t become leaders from a title bestowed upon them; they model it through their behavior by intentionally embracing their #softskills and #emotionalintelligence . Leaders who proactively do the hard work to “walk the talk” earn credibility, naturally attract others who look to them for advice and wisdom and understand how to bring out the best in themselves and their teams. #leadership #career #IlluminateMe …see more

When I first started as the Linkedin Campus Editor at USC, I didn't even attend the college yet.
I was about to transfer from UC Irvine, and spent hours after class driving back and forth between Irvine and South LA to meet with students about the platform and how they could create content on it. By my 3rd day as an official USC student, I was on the front page of the university newspaper. The Campus Editor Program was imperative in my career, but also in my self-image, teaching me to stretch myself beyond my "student" title and to express myself online. The community aspect made it one of my most rewarding experiences to date.
Being an alumni of the program, I have had the privilege working with  Joel Hansen and Annette H. , and I am proud that in August we are heading up the first Campus Editor Meetup at LinkedIn HQ in the San Fransisco Bay Area.
Thank you to Maya Pope-Chappell  and all the Campus Editors that I have had the privilege of meeting along the way: Hana J. , Tim Salau , Cornelius McGrath , Frederick Daso , Manu Goswami ,  Kate J. , Cheechee L. , Tiara Conley ,  Scarlett H. ,  Will Lawrence , Nathan Chiu , Leann Abad , Makenzee Frohlich , Casey Rosen , and so many more. …see more

While I've seen this image before I like it as a basic construct--almost like a check list. Co-Founder of ALL WE HAVE IS NOW
There was a good article I read this week that contained this observation, which I thought was very insightful in our age of abundant “information”. “more knowledge tends to correlate with more bias, because you learn what you want to learn” ( the article is about Brexit and I’m not sure we really need to think about it more) I can’t help but think as a species we are wired entirely for scarcity and yet we now live in an age of abundance in almost all ways and for almost all people. We’re programmed to want and get more, we are hunter gatherers. Yet realistically for many, it’s abundance and a paralysis of choice that’s the problem. Too many options, too many things to do watch, read, buy, eat, share etc. One would hope 2021 can be an era where we can lead with the idea we may have enough, that we should focus on better not more and that companies once again can strive for help and curation not a greater inventory of crap …see more
