I’ve shared this video a handful of times — and every time I get a message that rocks me to my core. 🖤 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 When I look at my team and everything that we have done... this event/experience stands out to me. We are best at stories, bringing people together, and creating experiences. That being said, I will be piloting a [free] digital event series in our Facebook group. I'll leave the link in the comments. Join. Don't join. Either way, I hope you're using this time to make new connections and build relationships with others (and yourself). #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more

Curiosity can be defined as a strong desire to know or learn something. But it’s so much more than that. When you’re curious, you’re open. Open to exploring new ideas, experiences, and possibilities, and to meeting new people and learning new things. Shifting your mindset to one of curiosity means that you view the world through what’s possible, not merely what is. Suddenly, opportunities are everywhere. You’re stretching your boundaries, considering— and trying—new things, solutions, and methodologies. You get in the habit of asking yourself and your colleagues, “What if?” and then together act on those insights. You naturally become more positive, which attracts interesting people into your world with whom you can collaborate. And the best thing about having curiosity? You transform into a lifelong learner, which will make you a better—and more valued leader. #leadership #business #success #mindset #professionaldevelopment #relationships #communication #growth #softskills #career #curiosity #HumansFirst #growthmindset #open …see more

Too many people don’t understand the value they bring.  “How do I go about making a strong personal brand?”  “How do I get noticed by employers/investors?” I was recently inspired by Fabio Marrama 's and  Tiffany Parra 's posts on the value young people can bring and how to define that value.  There are so many of us that define our professional brand by the number of jobs or titles we’ve had. After interviewing community builders and successful entrepreneurs, it has become clear to me that it was not their title that made them confident. Instead, great leaders knew exactly how they changed the organization for the better. It’s one of the biggest reasons I tend to resent the “fake it till you make it” mentality. It may work in certain situations. You know what works in every situation? -- Working hard -- Identifying mistakes to learn from -- Becoming more self-aware — Here are some people who are creating real value for the LinkedIn community. The return you’ll get on just pressing that follow button will be incredible. Goldie Chan, Manu Goswami Tim Salau Sam Park Michaela Alexis   #DefiningValue #LinkedInCreators …see more

I took a microbiome test 2 years ago to 1) see how it works and 2) to learn about the kilograms of bacteria that live in my digestive system. They have an impact on my weight, diet and sleep, among others, so it makes sense to know them. Now I retake the test to see what has changed since I made a few corrections in my diet. For this, I have to provide fecal sample (minimal quantity is enough as written on the tube) and the lab will sequence the DNA of those bacteria. I'll share the results and what I learnt this time too. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #health #healthy #fromchancetochoice #microbiome #dna #genetics …see more

Two charts from the Financial Times review of a week in markets that saw ... Stocks register record highs and their largest weekly overall fall for months (since March for the NASDAQ and June for the S&P); Wild volatility swings; and Via a third Bloomberg chart, an unchanged yield on US 10-year government bonds with counter-intuitive intra-week, moves. #markets #investing #investors #bonds #stocks #economy #fed #centralbanks #monetarypolicy …see more

Good morning. More of the same in the US bond market this early morning -- that is, continued bear steepner. The continued edging up in the 10-year yield to 87 bps is accompanied by 3 bps and 4 bps steepening in the 2s-10s and 2s-30s yield curves. With a concurrent rise in stocks, many see these moves as driven by higher growth expectations. Debt concerns and less portfolio hedging potency could also be at play, as well as some tapering in Fed purchases. #stocks #markets #economy #bonds #equities #stockmarket #bonds #investing #fed #assetallocation #investmentmanagement #centralbanks #yields …see more

The Financial Times on the $7 billion drop in Russia's international reserves in March. While it's been hit hard by the combination of the global economic slowdown and, especially, the steep drop in oil prices, what Russia has gone through is typical of what's happening in the vast majority of emerging economies, many of whom have less financial resilience. #economy #markets #EM #emergingmarkets #Russia #investing #investors #FT …see more

Love this cartoon from the New Yorker. Not only does it capture the fluidity of this generation-defining moment, but because it also uses the notion of an overlay to the new normal. As I've started to detail over the last few weeks, we do face a "new, new normal" -- that is, a post crisis landscape that retains some elements of the prior new normal and adds new and unusual realities. #economy #markets #coronavirus #covid109 #coovid #newyorker …see more

While I can't stand the notion of Generations" , like Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X etc. The reality is the workplace is now full of people aged 18 to 60, with entirely different expectations of work, of freedom, of careers, of order, of authority, of technology, of success and more. I'm not sure people talk about how hard makes life enough. We go from command and control to hoping to persuade. As a trusting, generous spirited, relaxed, 40 year old, I find myself more often than I'd like to accept thinking, "wow, when I was younger........" We should have more conversations on this, because there is no sign things are going to get easier soon. …see more

I'm getting pretty good at this online interview game. Had another opportunity to talk about my National Geographic Magazine article on #maternalmortality this morning with @AM2DM by BuzzFeed News, and I haven't felt so "hip" in a long time. Although when the interviewers are so young you own handbags older than they are, it's a sobering experience! Still, I'm grateful for the continuing interest in such an urgent #reproductivehealth issue. #reproductivejustice #birthequity #maternalhealth #womenshealth …see more

Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author of "Hooked" and "Indistractable." Public Speaker and Consultant
I’m finally doing what I love. I’ve started companies, worked as a consultant, and spent time in a number of roles that I wasn’t crazy about. And through this journey, I’ve finally found what I want to do for the rest of my life. As an author, I get to come with interesting questions, do research, and answer them. Writing has allowed me to dive into my own problems (and hopefully help others along the way). I’ll discuss my problems with my wife, my friends, and I’ll read up on them. Occasionally, I’ll come across a problem that hasn’t been explored with much depth. And that’s when I start writing about it. My problem a few years ago? Distraction. I’ve never been good with self-control -- and before I started working on Indistractable, there weren’t many great resources on managing distraction. Digital detoxes didn’t work and self-help books weren’t that helpful. The reason those things weren’t working was that the issue of distraction goes deeper than tech or self-control. Managing distraction and living with intent is about installing a system that helps you accomplish the things you set out to do. Getting to answer questions like these and help others struggling with the same issues are the reason why I love my work so much. …see more
